Eco-Resin Workshop Aftercare Guide

Thank you for joining one of our eco-resin workshops. Your handmade piece is completely unique and crafted by you, so a little care will help it stay beautiful for years to come.

Below are some simple tips to help you look after your eco-resin creation.

Curing Your Eco-Resin Piece

Eco-resin sets quickly, but it continues to strengthen for a short period after demoulding.

  • Pieces typically set in around 30–60 minutes depending on size and room temperature.

  • For the first 24–48 hours, handle your piece gently while it reaches its full strength.

  • Keep it indoors at room temperature during this time.

If your piece still feels slightly warm when removed from the mould, allow it a little longer before handling.

Cleaning Your Piece

Eco-resin is durable but should be cleaned gently.

To clean your piece:

  • Wipe with a soft damp cloth

  • Use mild soap if needed

  • Dry with a soft towel

Avoid:

  • Abrasive sponges

  • Harsh cleaning chemicals

  • Dishwashers

Gentle cleaning will help maintain the finish.

Water Exposure

Eco-resin pieces are not fully water resistant unless sealed.

  • Avoid soaking your piece in water

  • Wipe away standing water if it collects

  • If using a tray for plants, dry the surface if water spills

Sealing your piece can significantly improve its resistance to moisture and staining.

Heat Protection

Eco-resin is suitable for decorative home items such as trays, coasters and candle holders.

However, avoid:

  • Placing very hot items directly from the oven or hob

  • Exposure to direct flames or high heat

  • Leaving pieces in direct sunlight for long periods

Warm drinks on coasters are generally fine.

Indoor Use

Eco-resin pieces are designed for indoor decorative use.

Outdoor environments can expose the material to:

  • Moisture

  • Weather changes

  • Surface wear over time

Keeping your piece indoors will help preserve its appearance.

Natural Characteristics of Eco-Resin

Eco-resin is a handcrafted material, so each piece will have its own character.

You may notice:

  • Tiny air bubbles

  • Slight colour variations

  • Small surface texture differences

These are completely normal and part of the charm of handmade pieces.

Sealing Your Eco-Resin Piece

Sealing your piece helps:

  • Improve water resistance

  • Enhance colour and finish

  • Protect the surface from marks

There are two common options.

Option 1: Acrylic Sealer

Acrylic spray sealers are a simple and effective way to protect eco-resin pieces.

How to apply:

  1. Ensure your piece is fully dry and clean

  2. Apply a light, even coat

  3. Allow it to dry completely (at least 1 hour)

  4. Apply a second coat if needed (recommended)

Always follow the instructions on the product and test on a small area first if unsure.

Option 2: Natural Wax Sealant

You can also use a natural wax sealant made from beeswax and coconut oil.

This helps enhance colour and adds light protection to the surface.

Mouldd provide a tutorial on how to make this type of sealant here:

This type of sealant is natural and eco-friendly, though it may need reapplying over time.

Moisture or “Sweating”

Eco-resin is a natural, mineral-based material and can be slightly porous, similar to plaster or stone.

While curing, pieces may occasionally appear to sweat” or feel slightly damp. This is a normal part of the curing process and should disappear as the piece dries.

If a piece is left unsealed, it may also absorb small amounts of moisture from the air. In some environments this can occasionally leave a faint moisture mark on surfaces such as wooden furniture.

To prevent this:

  • Allow your piece to fully dry for a few days before sealing

  • Seal the surface with an acrylic sealer or wax

  • Consider adding cork pads or rubber feet if placing the piece on wood furniture

These steps help protect both your piece and the surfaces it sits on.

If Your Piece Gets Marks

Minor marks can sometimes appear with everyday use.

You can try:

  • Wiping with a damp cloth

  • Gently buffing with a soft cloth

  • Reapplying a light layer of sealant if needed

Avoid sanding or harsh chemicals.
